How to Choose the Right Welding Glove

How to Choose the Right Welding Glove

Balancing heat resistance, spark protection and grip in welding work.

Start with the task

Compare welding gloves by process, work duration, workpiece position and hand size, rather than price or leather appearance alone. Check suitability against the specific model's instructions and documented performance.

Dexterity and fit

TIG work requires control of the filler rod and torch. For stick or MIG/MAG work, describe the spatter conditions to the supplier. Thickness alone does not establish a protection rating.

  • Try a size that does not restrict movement or leave excessive space at the fingertips.
  • Check the cuff and clothing overlap through normal working movements.
  • Inspect palm, finger and cuff seams; separate damaged equipment according to its instructions.

Before a bulk order

Ask for the model code, size breakdown, material description, instructions and model-specific documentation in the quotation. Assess a sample with the intended users. A general explanation of standards is not evidence that every listed model is certified.

Compare welding gloves and view the argon glove.

Gloves are one part of task-specific protection, alongside controls for eyes, face, body and breathing. Reference: HSE welding controls.
