How stress points and reinforced seams determine service life.
Look beyond the leather panels
Panel joins, cuffs, straps and closures influence how equipment fits during use. Appearance alone cannot establish a protection class or identify the thread.
Where to inspect a sample
- Finger joins, thumb attachment and cuffs on gloves.
- Neck and waist strap attachments on aprons.
- Sleeve joins, underarms and closures on jackets.
Report open seams, loose threads and separating panels. Note joins that restrict movement during a fitting, so sample feedback describes a specific problem.
Ask for written specifications
Request the model code, thread and reinforcement description, sample acceptance criteria and user instructions. Visual inspection does not replace conformity documentation or testing. Confirm permitted repair methods with the manufacturer before repairing protective equipment.
